Timber framing houses (“Fachwerk”)

Timber framing houses are present throughout Europe and not only, but nowhere else will you find so many as in Germany. Many small villages escaped destruction during the war and you will find entire towns full only of timber houses.

The “Fachwerkstrasse” is a famous tourist route 3000km in length which goes through Germany from north to south and passes through more than 100 cities with beautiful half-timber houses. The town I live in is part of this Fachwerkstrasse and below you can see why. A panorama of part of the city center (“Marktplatz”), click for a bigger image:

Walk at night

Today we took advantage of the fact that spring came (finally!) and we went out for a walk through our little town. Tonight it’s the first time we go out for a walk since we moved here. Up to now there was no time and it was kinda cold and ugly outside anyway. It’s an old town with old streets and old houses but it’s a pleasure to walk around. It’s like traveling back in time. Couple of pictures I took:

When I get the chance I will put up some pictures made during a sunny day, it’s a place worth seeing ;-)
